National campaign:

KNOWLEDGE FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

The national campaign, "Knowledge for Sustainable Development" has been launched under the patronage of the Ministry of Education with funding from the U.S. Embassy, Telenor Foundation and other donors across Serbia. The creator of this great and important campaign, important for the country, is the Association "Oktoopus".

The campaign "Knowledge for Sustainable Development" is designed for the purpose of achieving prosperity today, while preserving the future prosperity with supporting intersectional actions, the participation of NGOs and individuals, through implementation of the social changes according to the leading initiative of the Lisbon Strategy and European 2020 strategy of innovation and effective use of resources.

The most important activity of the campaign is a competition in the development of video games with an eco message “Green Games”.
The competition includes 50.000 students from more than 150 schools and over 70 cities throughout Serbia. Winners will be chosen by the citizens of Serbia who will be able to vote via SMS or at the website.

First prize is a Robot Bird (interactive recycling urban installation art), and the second and third prizes are ArtEko robot for recycling plastic wrappings (PET), metal (MET) and paper packaging.

By the end of April 2012 all computer science teachers interested in the project will participate in Green Games forum, intended for the development of Green Games Engine, which will be applied in the development of games in the competition part of the program. http://www.greengames.rs/index.php/forum

In addition, it is open at the moment the accreditation period for computer science professors for Green Games seminar that will be held in May 2012 at the School of Computing in Belgrade.

Green Games program of the seminar is based on a model of socially responsible programming that analytically approaches to the use of renewable energy and clean technologies and addresses the long-affirmation in the areas of multimedia content with ecological message. GG seminar participants will receive all necessary materials (posters, brochures, detailed instructions regarding the rules of the competition, a multimedia presentation of the competition) that would easily be able to inform students about the future course of the competition.

The campaign "Knowledge for Sustainable Development" was supported by the Office of the Vice President for European integration - the Group for Sustainable Development, the Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Environment, Mining and Spatial Planning - Project Clean Serbia, the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the OSCE Mission in Serbia, the PROGRES projects for the European partnership with Municipalities (UNOPS), the Standing conference of Towns and Municipalities (SCTM), Telenor Foundation, local governments across the 70 cities and municipalities in Serbia.
